About Prince Charles, Edmonton
Prince Charles is a north-central Edmonton neighbourhood west of the planned Blatchford development. Originally subdivided in 1905 and annexed in 1910, its growth was driven by the extension of the electric streetcar in 1913 and 1916. The area developed as a low-density residential neighbourhood, with commercial and institutional spaces concentrated along 118 Avenue and the CNR right-of-way. Most residential growth occurred in the late 1940s and 1950s, but the housing stock now spans over a century, featuring single-detached homes alongside newer semi-detached units and low-rise apartments.
Prince Charles Park sits at the neighbourhood’s center, while Prince Charles Elementary School is in the northwest. Originally called North Inglewood, the community renamed itself in 1953 to honor His Royal Highness Prince Charles, following a successful petition by the local community league.
