About Blue Quill, Edmonton

Blue Quill is a southwest Edmonton neighborhood developed after the area was annexed in 1971. Originally farmland with several operating farmsteads, the community took shape following the Kaskitayo Outline Plan in 1973. Most residential construction occurred in the 1970s, with some continuing into the early 2000s.

The neighborhood features a mix of single and semi-detached homes, row houses, and apartments. A commercial center is located along Saddleback Road, while schools and parks are nestled within the community. Blackmud Creek Ravine, a significant natural feature, lies just southwest of Blue Quill, offering residents access to scenic trails and green space.

As part of the Kaskitayo area’s tradition of honoring Indigenous leaders, Blue Quill is named after Cree Chief Blue Quill of the Saddle Lake Indian Reserve. In the late 19th century, he was a prominent trader in Edmonton, leaving a lasting legacy.
