About Callaghan, Edmonton
Callaghan is a triangular neighborhood in southwest Edmonton, bordered by 30 Avenue SW to the south, James Mowatt Trail to the north and west, and Blackmud Creek Ravine to the east. The ravine offers access to forested walking trails, while a centrally located stormwater pond provides additional green space.
Part of the Heritage Valley Servicing Concept Design Brief, Callaghan’s Neighbourhood Structure Plan was adopted in 2005, and development is ongoing. The area will feature a mix of low and medium-density housing, with two public parks planned for the south. Callaghan is a primarily residential neighborhood with no commercial zones.
Named after world-renowned heart surgeon Dr. John Callaghan, the neighborhood pays tribute to notable figures through its street names. Roads such as Cunningham, Cantor, Connelly, and Casselman honor individuals who made significant contributions to Alberta’s history in medicine, real estate, and public service.
