About Daly Grove, Edmonton
Daly Grove is one of 26 neighbourhoods in Mill Woods and part of the Southwood community. The Mill Woods land bank was assembled in 1970 to address rising residential land costs. Named after Mill Creek and its parkland groves, the area’s development plan was established in 1971. Residential construction in Daly Grove began in 1978, with most homes built during the 1980s.
Bounded by 23 Avenue, 16A Avenue, 34 Street, and Mill Woods Road East, Daly Grove is designed for efficient traffic flow while minimizing internal congestion. High-density housing is located along collector roads, and a central recreational space serves as the neighbourhood’s focal point.
The community is named after Thomas Daly (1861–1908), recognized for developing high-quality wheat and oats. He won first prize at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair for his Alberta-grown oats and contributed to local governance. The Southwood Community League, formed in 1980, represents Daly Grove, Crawford Plains, and Pollard Meadows.
