About Hudson, Edmonton
Hudson is a north Edmonton neighbourhood within the Palisades Area Structure Plan. It is bordered by 127 Street’s commercial area, Cumberland Road to the north, an industrial zone at 140 Street to the west, and 137 Avenue’s commercial developments to the south.
Planned to integrate with Cumberland while buffering commercial and industrial areas, Hudson saw limited residential construction in the 1990s, with most homes built in the early 2000s. The neighbourhood consists mainly of single-detached homes and some low-rise multi-unit buildings. A stormwater pond in the northeast provides open space and pedestrian pathways, while nearby commercial hubs offer easy access to amenities.
Following the Palisades naming tradition, Hudson is named after Hudson House, a Hudson’s Bay Company post built in 1779 near present-day Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. HBC itself was named after Henry Hudson, who explored the Hudson Bay area in 1610.
