About Macewan, Edmonton
MacEwan is a residential neighbourhood in southwest Edmonton, part of the Heritage Valley Servicing Concept Design Brief (SCDB). Approved in 2001, development began soon after. It is bordered by Anthony Henday Drive to the north, 127 Street to the west, Ellerslie Road to the south, and 111 Street to the east.
MacEwan features a mix of low-, medium-, and high-density housing. Higher-density homes are near commercial areas and the 111 Street transit corridor, while lower-density homes are in the interior along curvilinear streets and cul-de-sacs. Pedestrian pathways connect parks and natural areas throughout the community.
The Victory Christian Centre, with church and school facilities, was established before residential development. The Virginia Woodlot, a natural green space, is also preserved in the design.
The neighbourhood is named after John Walter Grant MacEwan (1902–2000), a historian, author, and politician who served as Calgary’s mayor and Alberta’s lieutenant-governor.
