About Menisa, Edmonton
Menisa is one of 27 neighbourhoods in Mill Woods and part of the Knottwood community. The Government of Alberta created the Mill Woods land bank in 1970 to address rising land costs. By 1971, Edmonton had a development plan, and by 1976, residential construction in Menisa was underway, finishing by the decade’s end.
Bounded by arterial and collector roads, Menisa features curvilinear streets, cul-de-sacs, and pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. It consists mainly of single-detached homes, with some higher-density housing and commercial sites along main roads. A school and recreational space serve as the neighbourhood’s focal point.
Menisa residents have access to local shops in Menisa Shopping Centre and additional services at Mill Woods Town Centre. The name “Menisa” means “berries” in Cree, referencing the area’s natural vegetation.
