About Minchau, Edmonton
Minchau is one of 27 neighbourhoods in Mill Woods and part of the Ridgewood community. The Alberta government established the Mill Woods land bank in 1970 to address rising land costs, and Edmonton began development in 1971.
Minchau is a triangular neighbourhood, bordered by arterial roads on the west and south, with Mill Creek Ravine forming the eastern boundary. Curving collector roads and cul-de-sacs shape the area, with pathways supporting pedestrian and bicycle travel. A school and recreation site sit adjacent to the ravine.
Development began in the late 1970s, with most homes built in the 1980s. Single-detached houses dominate, with some high-density housing and commercial sites along main roads. Residents access services at Aspenwood Shopping Centre and Mill Woods Town Centre.
Minchau was named after August Minchau, a Polish immigrant who settled in the area in 1894.
