About Skyrattler, Edmonton
Skyrattler was annexed to Edmonton in 1974 as part of the Kaskitayo plan. At the time, only the Baptist Seminary College existed. The neighbourhood features primarily row housing and low-rise apartments, many near Blackmud Creek Ravine. Most multi-family homes were built in the late 1970s, while single-detached houses followed in the 1980s. A small shopping plaza at Saddleback Road and 23 Avenue serves the community.
Like other 1970s-1980s developments, Skyrattler has a curvilinear street design with limited arterial access. A central school and park site were later rezoned in 2008 for low-density housing. The neighbourhood was named after Skyrattler, Chief of the Winterburn band when Edmonton became a city in 1904.
